Dr. Harpreet Lotay graduated from the University of Alberta with honors (MD degree). She did her residency in Family Practice in Edmonton followed by a fellowship in Aesthetics with Dr. Allan Wulc an Occuloplastics Specialist in Philadelphia. She was also an Assistant Clinical Professor in the dept. of Family Medicine at the University of Texas in San Antonio until 2007 and taught for the American Academy of Family Practice courses in Facial Peels and Aesthetics.

BOTOX

Botox is one of the most commonly used cosmetic procedures.  It is very effective in reducing the appearance of dynamic wrinkles. It is also used to reduce excessive sweating and can be used to treat some types of headaches such as tension headaches and migraines that do not respond to other forms of treatment.

Botox is a protein that is used to block the activities of overactive muscles that, over time , cause certain facial wrinkles.  By selectively weakening these muscles, we can decrease the appearance of deeper facial wrinkles.  Cautious use of this injectable brings out a person's natural but younger-looking face.

Areas Treated: Crow's Feet, Forehead Lines, Eyebrows to achieve an Eyebrow Lift, Lip lines, Underarms  and Hands for excessive sweating.

The results of Botox will last four to six months for most patients. Treatment for excessive sweating or hyperhydrosis lasts up to 12 months.

Restylane and Fillers

Some facial lines are caused by loss of volume and collagen under the superficial skin layers.  Fillers such as Restylane correct these lines by replacing volume loss.  Restylane is a naturally occurring gel-like substance called hyaluronic acid. This is found in cartilage and other tissues in the body.  Restylane is injected under the skin surgace to fill in areas such as smile lines.  Fillers can also be used to enhance the appearance of the lips, which tend to lose volume with aging. 

Treatment takes 30-45 minutes.  Unlike collagen injections, no skin testing is needed.  There is very little swelling or redness and most people can return to regular activities right away.  Results last about 6 months.

Areas Treated:  Lips, Smiles Lines, Lines around the Mouth and Corners of the Mouth.

Perlane is also a filler and it is primarily the same product as Restylane, but Perlane filler contains a larger concentration of hyaluronic acid.  Because of this higher concentration of hyaluronic acid, Perlane is usually used for larger folds, while Restylane is better suited for smaller wrinkles or to maintain the results of a previous Perlane injection.

Common uses for Perlane filler include:  Wrinkle correction, Lip enhancement, Chin augmentation, Filling cheek depressions, Redefining lip border and softening acne scars.  Results last about 6 months to a year.
